Genetically modified crops: An independent comparison proves: Neither are crop yields bigger nor do genetically modified crops require less pesticides.

The media have been spreading promises and claims from the multinational biotechnology companies for years as facts: genetically modified crops were said to produce more harvests and fewer pesticides. People in the Third World could only be adequately fed with genetic engineering. As evidence they put forward studies they have financed themselves.
It seemed that the only uncertainty left were possible long-term adverse effects for the health of animals and humans and the freedom of choice of consumers.

Now the New York Times has compared crop yields and pesticide use of genetically modified corn, rape and cotton with conventional cultivations over a period of thirty years and based to independent data. Conclusion: “False hopes” and “unrealized dreams”.
